Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept insurance?

I do! Lots of insurances cover birth and postpartum doula services. It’s always a good idea to look into your specific provider and their requirements, but I’ve worked with insurance in the past and have no problem helping you navigate sending claims and providing the information you may need to get covered!

What is a doula?

A birth doula is trained, non-medical professional who provides essential education and support throughout the perinatal period

ACOG recognizes that having doula support improves postpartum mental health, decreases the need for interventions, and patient’s report a more positive birth and postpartum experience.

What’s the difference between a postpartum doula and a nanny?

Postpartum doulas are trained, non-medical professional’s specializing in lactation and maternal and newborn care. They provide care to the entire family during the first few months after birth. Their focus is on the wellbeing of the whole family, particularly the person recovering from birth. Their care is centered around providing emotional, physical, and educational support throughout the early weeks of postpartum.

Nannys typically receive education or experience in childhood development and education, often focusing primarily on the child/children’s needs. Nanny’s also provide long term care for the family that can last for years.

When should I hire a doula?

If you’re looking to hire a birth doula, I recommend looking sometime between the last few weeks of your second trimester to the first few weeks of your third trimester. It can take time to interview prospective doulas and find someone you connect with, so planning ahead of time is useful!

If you’re looking for a postpartum doula, I recommend looking during your third trimester so you feel confident and supported ahead of time.

How can a doula support my partner?

Doulas work with partners to offer guidance and support for them though out labor and postpartum as well! Doula’s offer care to the whole family, ensuring everyone feels involved, confident, and supported.
